Thrust SSC is the fastest car in the world. On 15th October 1997, driven by jet pilot Andy Green, it achieved a speed of 763mph and in the process was the first vehicle to break the sound barrier on land achieving Mach 1.02.

The car was developed by Richard Noble, who had himself broken the land speed record in 1983 in Thrust 2, a smaller but equally impressive car. After many trials and tribulations Noble and Green eventually got Thrust SSC to the Black Rock desert where, with the help of a loyal and hard working team, the car achieved all its design objectives.

Thrust SSC is powered by two Rolls Royce Spey engines which give 110,000hp, the equivalent to 137 Formula One cars. It also features a unique rear wheel steering system and an active suspension system that is controlled by a complex on board computer system designed to react to the incredible forces placed on the car at supersonic speeds.

The car’s iconic status is assured as it will always be the first car to break the sound barrier on land.
